
12.11.1963; Born in Istanbul.
1981-85; Bachelor’s degree at Marmara University, Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of German Language Education.
1985-88; Master’s degree at Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature Department of German Language and Literature with a thesis on “Reception Aesthetic on Education of Literature”
1987 ; One year education at Boğaziçi University, Departmen of Turcology.
1988-90 ; Postgraduate seminars at Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature Department of German Language and Literature and started working on her postgraduate thesis on “Criticism of Theater in Turkey”
At the same period she worked at “Tiyatro Araştırma Laboratuarı”, “İstanbul Belediyesi Şehir Tiyatroları” as assistant of Beklan Algan and as a dramaturg.
Worked as an actress and and assistant director in “Ich höre İstanbul”, directed by Karl A.S.Meyer. The play was staged at Berlin School of Art and “TİYATROM” and she attended the workshop, “Improvisations With Tales”, directed by Prof. Wolfgang Nickel.
1990; Started working as a dramaturg at “Bakırköy Municipal Theater”.
1991; Became a member of The Union of Critics and attended to “Seminar of Young Critics” at the invitation of The International Union of Critics.
Writing reviews on theater in many magazines e.g Hürriyet Gösteri, Milliyet Sanat and Tiyatro Tiyatro.
Yılmaz Onay staged Eugene Labiche’s “Die Affaere rue de Lourcine” with her translation at Bakırköy Municipal Theater.
1992; Took part in the Berlin Theater Meeting (Theatertreffen) at the invitation of the Goethe Institute. Attended the workshop “Authorship in Children’s Theater” for three weeks.
1993-2000; Took place in the jury of Ismet Küntay.
Lectured on theater history at Children Club in Bakırköy Municipal Theater.
1994; Became the editor of the magazine, Hamlet.
Took place in The Union of Theater Critics’ book, “Through A Critic’s Eye: Period of the Republic Turkish Theater Critic Anthology “. The book was published by Mnistry of Culture in 1994.
Participated as director assistant and translator in several workshops held by “İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Şehir Tiyatroları” within “Eskişehir International Festival”. (Karl A.S. Meyer, Prof.Dr. Wolfgang Nickel, Dagmar Dörger, Stefan Fischer-Fels)
Sera Yılmaz staged Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s "Angst essen Sele auf" ( Fear eats the soul) with her translation (Diğerlerinin Adı Ali) at “İstanbul Şehir Tiyatroları”(Municipal Theatre of Istanbul)
1998; Been invited to Berlin Theater Meeting (Theatertreffen) by Munich Goethe Institute and took place in the playwriting workshop, "Violence Around" for two weeks.
1996-2000; Wrote critiques on theater in Newspaper“Radikal”.
2000-2001; Wrote reviews in Newspaper “Yeni Binyıl”.
2000; Participated in the translation workshop for three weeks, held within Bonn Biennial by the International Theater Institute Germany.
2001 October; At the invitation by the Goethe Institute Weimar, attended the seminar “International Cultural Trading”.
2000-2001; Made the radio program “İki Kalas Bir Heves” at “Açık Radyo”.
Gave seminars at İstanbul University -Theater Criticism and Dramaturgy and “Akademi İstanbul” on “Modern German Theater” and “Theater of Heiner Müller”.
Since 2002-2003 lecturing at “Haliç Üniversitesi”.
2003; Took part in the play, Frank Wedekind’s “Musik”, directed by Konstanze Lauterbach in Berlin Deutsches Theater, for three months, with the scholarship granted by ITI International Theater Institute Germany and Goethe Institute.
2004 February-March; Held the organisation and the translation of the reading theater activity with the subject “Dört Kadın Dört Dünya”, within the cooperation of “ İstanbul Devlet Tiyatrosu”(National Theatre) and Goethe Institute.
2004-2006; Lectured “Modern Staging Techniques” at İstanbul University – Department of Theater Criticism and Dramaturgy, “Theater Aesthetic” at Mimar Sinan University Department of Theater.
2005; Attended an international translation workshop in Mülheim for three weeks.
Consulting several festivals in Germany and Austria on Turkish Theater.
2005-2006; Commited the consultancy of the international project “Turkish-German Playwrights Workshop” held by “Düsseldorf Forum Freies Theater” with Feridun Zaimoğlu.
Still working at Bakırköy Municipal Theater as a dramaturg.
